A while back we bought "soft" gun cases for all our rifles so they would be protected and a little easier to handle. Since all the cases are the same you can't tell which is which until you unzip the case and look at it. I got this brilliant idea to put tags on each case for identification.
I laid the rifles all across the top bunk in my office and attached the appropriate tag to each case.
In order to get the right tag on the right case I unzipped the bottom of each one so I could see the rifle butt and know which was which. The one in question was my Zane Grey Commemorative Model 30-30 with the brass butt plate and no sissy rubber cushion like the shotgun.
When I was finished I was going to put them all back in the new gun safe we bought several months ago so I grabbed the first one and pulled it off the bed.
Remember, I had unzipped the end so I could tell which gun was inside (notice I was doing this while barefoot).
Since I grabbed the cloth handles of the case, the gun inside was free to slide un-encumbered out the bottom of the case and directly onto my foot from a height of several feet.
The corner of the stock hit directly on the middle toe of my right foot and smashed it between the stock and the thinly covered concrete floor. Yes, it hurt immensely. Each day it turns darker but hurts a little less. Yesterday I sat around with my foot elevated all day. Today I may venture outside so I don't go completely crazy. Remember, most accidents happen at home. Be careful!!!!
