This is Bertha. She's the dominant one of the bunch and was a champion layer until she got sick. She still hasn't quite recovered. She's not the most beautiful thing and we sometimes wonder is she's not half turkey. She's so fat she waddles when she walks and almost falls over if she runs.

Chickens!
There's been some requests for pics of our chickens so here you go.

This is Roger (yes, that is a man's name for a female chicken). She's third in the pecking order and currently our best layer:
The coop I built, plus our neighbor's old dog kennel combined to make a great pen. We sometimes let them out into our neighbor's orchard for some extra excitement:

Washington DC
Looks like we're back in the computer business, so I thought I'd post some pictures from our summer. Here's some from my trip to Washington DC in July.
The Capitol taken from the window on my bus tour

This was about a block from my hotel. I didn't have time to go in or visit the International Spy Museum which was also right around the corner. Maybe next time:
Honest Abe:
View from the Lincoln Memorial with the Washington Monument and Capitol in the background:
Back of the White House:
Front of the White House at about 11:30 at night. I shared the time with a man that keeps a 24/7 protest on the sidewalk across the street and a man who claimed to be from the moon and spent his time chanting in Arabic. You can't see it in this picture, but there is a Secret Service guy that walks back and forth on top of the White House all night long:
Washington Monument, two things I didn't know about it. It's two different colors and is the world's tallest freestanding masonry structure, no inside supports at all, just stones:
Boy Scouts lining up on the National Mall for the parade commemorating 100 yrs of scouting. Our bus driver got yelled at for driving right through the staging/parade area. This was in front of some of the Smithsonian museums:
For all of you National Treasure fans out there:

Class Reunion
We had a good week. Neighbors keep stopping by to admire the front deck. Joan wants one and Tom Sandell said how much he likes it. We love it. I went to look at deck chairs at Home Depot but they are all put away for the winter. I guess we'll have to wait until next spring.
This weekend was the big reunion at Warden. They held it the same week end as the community celebration. Randy Pixton (a member and old friend was one of the main organizers - they included 3 years older and 3 years younger than their class - '70) had done a great job and we had lots of fun. We met at the Warden cafeteria Friday night and mainly just visited. We couldn't find a motel anywhere (the Dave Matthews band was playing at the "Gorge" west of George, Washington so all motels were full) so we drove home (almost hit a coyote - it was much bigger so we think it might have been a wolf) and then drove back again last night. There were more people last night so we had more fun visiting. We even had Chico's pizza. The two guys in the picture with me (Reed and Randy) put a mannequin on our doorstep in Provo one night when Aunt Linda and Uncle Joe were staying with us. They pounded on the door and then ran. The only way I knew who it was was because I recognized the sound of the glass packs on Reed's car as they sped away.
The whole reunion was full of just plain good people. Mom and I commented that with all the gang and drug problems in Warden, these people are just plain good down-to-earth people. No one said anything about their net worth. We just talked about our kids and grand kids and old memories all night. We tied with Steve Cox for the most grandchildren. The whole room was full of 60 year old people who have mellowed with age and enjoyed each others company. We're glad we went - both nights.
Tomorrow we start sealing the decks. I wish it was already done. I'm anxiously waiting for my grass to emerge. Hopefully it will get established before winter.
We love you all.
PS - Danny Caballero is the PE teacher at the elementary school.
