One of my recent assignmetns for the KCSD is acting as K9 quarry. I get to dress up in the bite suit/sleeve and take the hits from the dogs during the training exercises. My second time out, they put me in a "Pro Suit" which is not much more than a heavily padded Carhartt coat/pants. I then took about two dozens total bites from our three dogs and a forest service dog.
Here's the damage.
The bruises went through the whole color cycle of blue, purple, green, yellow, and most everything in between. I also got a nice little scar on my wrist where my watch got broken and the band and pin dug into my wrist. Now I need a new watch.
Two weeks ago, we went to Spokane for K9 training and I got to hide in a three foot tall cardboard box the size of a wood pallet in an HVAC supply warehouse. The lights were then turned out and the dog was cut loose. I got to sit quiet and motionless while the dogs sniffed me out and came in for the bite. It's an erie feeling watching them run back and forth as they home in on your scent, then target lock on you when they realize where and what you are.
