The Catch

We fished a small pond (almost a mud hole) a few blocks from Darrick's house and each of the kids enjoyed success. (Raya was asleep in the car).

Gunnison

This weekend we drove out to Gunnison, CO (four hours from Denver) to visit Darrick and Camille Zirker. Their daughters are Camden (blonde), Dakota (a talkative brunette), and Oakley (not pictured). They were wonderful hosts and we had a lot of fun! Saturday afternoon we drove up to a lake above Crested Butte. The kids played on a small raft and Darrick and I each took a few dives. Yes, the water was cold.

We also tried some fishing but didn't have much luck at this lake. I'll show some pictures of the catch on my next post.

Today we attended church with them at their branch in Gunnison. Again, a good time was had by all.

Potpourri of Pictures

The highlight of the week was Aimee's birthday today. She is the big 8! Saturday is her baptism and she cannot wait. This year she wanted a treasure chest for her cake.

Wednesday, was Denver Radio Club night. We toured the local TV transmitter site. The top picture shows a cross section of the 8 inch copper feedline. Think of it as coax on steroids! The lower picture is the feedline tunnel from the transmitter building to the antenna base.

Saturday was "Buffalo Bill Days" in Golden. They have a fun parade that we like to watch. The kids especially like all the candies and treats! It is like Halloween in July.

Saturday was also our July 24th celebration. The highlight of the event was the pony rides! The girls were excited the whole day and it was the first thing they did when they got there.

Enjoyable Week

Since Friday was a holiday (July 24th) we took Thursday off too and went camping at Laird Park. It was about 1/2 full when we got there and by wandering around a little we noticed that the family in our favorite spot was breaking camp. We asked if they were leaving and if they minded if we moved our car next to theirs and waited. They were nice about it so we got our favorite spot. We set up our new tent - wow is it nice? We had our sleeping bags, our new fold up table, we each had a chair, lots of room to move around and we could stand up straight (especially nice as you get older). We like our new tent!!!!!!

We sat around, read, walked, ate, and relaxed for a couple of days and then came home Saturday morning. Last night we went to the third installment of entertainment at Kamiak Butte. I was a couple about our age. He played the dulcimer and banjo and they both sang. We enjoyed it. Next week is the final one and it is about the military/indian conflict at Steptoe Butte. Should be interesting.

It is now about 92 degrees outside but about 70 degrees inside. Boy it is tough!! We love our new air conditioning.

Humor for the week. When we got home yesterday Shane was just cleaning up from a painting disaster. They built a fence/latice work around their deck to take the place of the trees and to shield them from the street (Lund Lane). Shane was staining it and had a gallon of paint sitting on Zacks brand new orange fiberglass extension latter. He went to move the ladder and - yup, you guessed it. The paint tipped off the ladder on top of Shane and poured down him, the deck, down the side of their white house, and down the fence below the deck. I'm guessing it was a picture just like in the movies. The deck is now stained but the house and fence need to be repainted in some areas.

The Rains (Tom, Tracey and family) were in church today. They were passing through on vacation and stopped to visit.
