Sunday Afternoon

While your kids are quietly reading scriptures and writing in their journals, my kids build pool tables. I noticed that the kids were being unusually quiet this afternoon. After I discovered them in the 100 degree garage, I found out that they had built a pool table and were enjoying a nice round of pool. Katie and Kori were playing nicely in the cage underneath. Just another in the 100 uses for a plywood puppet theater.

Red Tail Hawk (and lunch)

It has been an interesting week. I gave several presentations to Bishop's Training groups about taking over cleaning of the meetinghouses from the custodians. Mom rode down with me to Walla Walla to do that one. We got home about mid-night. Missed a dear by at least 20'.

Friday she rode up to Rosalia with me to do a Board-of -Review for a scout.

Wednesday morning I got a call from the HVAC company and they wanted to start installing the new furnace and air conditioner. To do so they needed full access to the office, under the stairs, and across the back of the garage. I called Mom to see if she could get things opened up - when my ear drum quit ringing she said she would try. They got started and then came back on Friday and finished it. Tomorrow them come to pressurize the system and install the Freon. Everything looks good except the dirty PVC pipe along the ceiling of the utility room to get the condensate to the washing machine drain. I'll probably box it in and paint it.

About mid week we heard a screaming in the back yard and finally figured out that it was a red-tail hawk doing in one of our rabbits for lunch (see picture). It was kind of sad but that's nature for you. The bird stood about 18-24" tall. Mr. Rabbit just wasn't fast enough.

We got a call from Casey Deccio. He was in the area visiting and wanted to stop by (see picture). They came by Saturday morning and had a nice visit. He was a little nostalgic about the old days. He remembered that we gave him a big "Mr. Goodbar" when he was baptised. They live in the San Francisco Bay area. He works for a computer tech company and is working on an advanced college degree. They have three kids: Zion (girl), Hyrum (boy), & Ezra (boy). He is the executive secretary in their ward and she is in the relief society.
Mom and I went to the program at Kamiak Butte again last night. Mr. Leonard gave a presentation about the flowers found on the Palouse. Next week it is a small musical group. We kind of enjoy the drive, scenery, and program.
