Adventures of the Week

So Wednesday my adventure partner RyRy showed up at my house and asked if I wanted to go out to the sun tunnels to watch the sun set. I've been wanting to go there for a long time so I said sure. The tunnels are lined up in the middle of the desert so that the rising and setting sun on the summer and winter solstices pass directly through them. I guess you'd have to be an artist to figure out the "why they are there" part. To get there we drove to Wendover and then straight north along a dry lake, on a dirt road for an hour. There were about 35 people there, a good mix of farmers, hippies and college kids but everyone was really nice. Our personal favorite was the guy in the picture. This is Jim the unofficial tour guide at the sun tunnels. He had been camped out there since Tuesday and freely volunteered to show
you around and share everything he knew about the tunnels.
The woman who put the tunnels there is married to the same
guy who put the Spiral Jetty in the great salt lake. We went out
there geocaching a couple of years ago.
My other adventure was last night. I signed up to go on a ride along with the Orem Police Dept. I went out from 7 to midnight last night and I now know what Matt means when he says they just answered barking dog calls and that kind of stuff. It was a fairly slow night. The best call may have been to the guy who wrecked his motorcycle out by the freeway. He had a brand new (it had 300 something miles on it, the exact distance from Utah to Las Vegas where he bought the bike yesterday morning) $19,000 BMW touring bike. He came off of the freeway, lost control and you could see where his bike slid for about 20 feet. I felt kind of bad for him and I think he was glad he bought the brand new helmet and jacket that he was wearing.
Kelly is off the England with her mom this morning. Her conference is Monday and then they'll do some sight seeing. Wouldn't it be nice if the school would send us all on a trip.
