Jake the Snake

I was sitting in church today and got a tap on the shoulder from the bench behind me. I turned around and after a few seconds, realized it was cousin Jacob Langeveld. I don't think I've seen him for 5 years or more, so it actually took me a while to recognize him. He was in the ward to see his girlfriend speak with the visiting high councilman. He's going to law school at Creighton in Omaha and he has an internship with the Utah County attorney's office in Provo for the summer.
He said to say hi to everyone when I saw them.

It's Summer - Now I'm Too Hot

Yes, summer is here. We are in the 70's and 80's and not a drop of rain in sight. We had a good week. Eugene, Brenda, Tami and I made it through all of Grandpa (and Grandma's) stuff. It was a fairly pleasant experience and everyone got a least some of the things they wanted. It was interesting - it wasn't the furniture and larger stuff that we all wanted but the small, insignificant, and inexpensive stuff. Some of the things we had fun dividing up were:

• Marine Corps uniform insignia, pins, dog tags, rings, etc.
• Spoon collection
• Diplomas (seminary, Roosevelt High School, and Utah State College (University).
• Dishes
• Silverware
• Old family games
• Original wood puzzles made by Grandpa
• Two zip-lock bags of plastic Christmas Tree ornaments
• Scriptures (Grandma and Grandpa, and some from early 1900 relatives)

All in all we had a good time. Mom and I enjoyed having Eugene stay with us from Friday until Tuesday. We had lots of time to talk and reminisce.

On Monday we met with Wynn Mosman to finish up the legal aspect of the estate/will. That is about done. We also met with Monte Walker to divide the bulk of Grandpa's investments. We should all be getting our "inheritance" in a couple of weeks (we will sell the house when the market improves - if it does). It seems that several will be buying new cars, we will be improving the house, and some will invest theirs in their retirement. Sorry there wasn't enough to take us all around the world and allow us to quit our jobs.

Yesterday, was Junior Rangers with our local county park service. We hiked a mile into a backpacking campground in the foothills west of Golden. They had several stations set up where the kids got to learn more about animals, weather, pioneers, wilderness journals, geo-caching and fire building. The kids had a lot of fun and enjoyed the various activities. By the time we left and got back to the car, we had spent several hours there and they were good and tuckered out.
