October

The tradition continues. (Do I have less hair?)

We played tabletop football for one FHE. Kanyon was trying to "be the ball."

Thanks for the Webelos items Grammy. Braxton loves his spiral bound book.

Halloween 2011. L-R: A Lego lava monster, a giggling ghost, a ballerina (not a princess!), and a professional sleeper (Lisa made the bathrobe from old bathtowels. Next time you come to visit either bring your own towel or make the sprint to your room).

New Carpet

Les packed our whole house into the kitchen!
I tore out the old carpet.
The new carpet installed by my friend Phil.
We didn't have enough going on this weekend, so we decided to install new carpet throughout our house. When Leslie's sister Tina bought her new house, she did not like the carpet. She replaced it with a different color, but saved it for us. When Travis came through with his U-haul a few weeks ago, he dropped off the carpet. I finally coordinated schedules, and my friend Phil from work came over Saturday and installed the carpet. He did a great job! When we rolled the piano back in over the new carpet, it did not move an inch, he had streched so nice and tight. We have the house pretty much put back together and when I get up the energy, I'll finish changing the carpet in the TV room.
Brant
Yesterday we found a nice little hike just 20 minutes from home. Here's Kelly enjoying the view at the Potomac Gorge
In the category of "things old men like to do", we would like to enter our occasional pastime of watching planes land at the airport. There is a park about 400 ft north of the runway at Reagan Airport where people hang out and watch the planes land. On any given day you can see families having a picnic, cabbies resting in their cars and doing whatever it is that cabbies do, or if it is a day like today, you'll see a 3 on 3 wiffleball tournament. Some of the planes come in pretty low and I like to watch them wobble back and forth as the pilot makes final adjustments before landing. It's especially fun to watch on a day with a stiff cross-breeze. The planes come in yawing to one side or the other and then straighten out right before they land.
Here he comes. Hope he gets it straightened out pretty soon.
Kelly's dad flew in this afternoon for a tax conference. This is his plane.

Not Much Today

Mom and John with Pike they caught in the ocean. They are standing in their Grandpa Backlund's back yard across the street from where Mom grew up.

It's about 24 degrees outside and looks like a beautiful day is on its way. This weekend is stake conference. We had an excellent meeting last night and this morning Mom and I are headed to Post Falls to attend church with Matt and Kimbre. We'll miss conference but it is a chance to visit without disrupting any of our callings. We had a touch of snow this week but it melted as soon as it fell. Moscow Mountain and Paradise Ridge each got a few inches.

Hurray, the Vandals won their football game against San Jose State yesterday. They plan BYU in Provo next week. Seth and a guy he works with are driving down Friday and back on Sunday. Both teams had an open weekend so they lined up this game. I hope all goes well.

Enjoy the weekend and the season.
