Whoever came up with the drum brake system for cars deserves a medal. That is one complicated system of springs, levers, bells and whistles that somehow stops your car.
Last night I decided to find out why the parking brake on my Ranger hasn't been working very well and why I've had a little noise in the brakes. When I took off the back left brake drum and pieces of brake shoe fell out, I knew I was in the right spot. Overall, my first time replacing brake shoes wasn't too bad. Not as easy as swapping brake pads on our Honda in five minutes, but not too bad.
Dad, I'm not sure how you ever did it without the handy little brake spring tool. That was the best $6 I ever spent.
