Sweet Home Alabama

Brant called me this afternoon and it occurred to me that I neglected to mention my most recent move to everyone. I am currently in Birmingham, Alabama where I'll be working for the summer. I am installing home security systems like a did a few years ago in Memphis. I hadn't planned on returning to the work, but two weeks ago I got a phone call with a job offer and within a week I quit my job in DC, bought a car, updated my tools and made it to Birmingham. There is currently a delay in our licensing here in Alabama, so all last week we worked in Mississippi. We were all over the Mississippi Delta in small towns along the Arkansas border, about two hours south of Memphis. The work and adventures are about the same as last time and I am optimistic about making some good money to help pay for my schooling in London in the fall. Birmingham is beautiful and I'll try to take some pictures one of these days to share. Until then, here's a disgusting story of the week:

On my first day installing by myself, I went to a house to install a system for a woman that was handicapped and confined to a wheelchair. While I talked with her, she was eating a McDonald's burger and some fries from a crumpled bag in her lap. With each system I install, I have to make a few phone calls and on this particular day my phone wasn't getting good reception, so I asked to use her phone. She said it was no problem and then reached down in the front of her pants and pulled out a cordless phone. After a quick moment of panic and looking around the room for other options, I had to use her phone and I was stuck with the smell of stale french fries and the feel of a greasy, nasty phone on my hands for the rest of the day. The next day, after a shower and power washing my hands and ear a few times, I still felt dirty.

Catching up

It has been a while since we downloaded pictures.  Here are some recent happenings in our family.
(January) Trent receiving his first class badge in scouts
 (February 13th) Korbins 8th Birthday
(Feb 20th) Korbin Receiving his Bobcat at his first pack meeting

 (March 3rd)  Korbins Baptism
 Andra and Maura on Easter

Remember the Movie, Holes?

There is something about boys, dirt (mud), shovels, & misc. boards and posts.
No, they didn't dig on Sunday.  They just posed for the pictures.
Kevin worked in the cold and rain yesterday and dug all ten holes.
Naturally, one of the gate posts would land right on top of the old gate post concrete.
The number of vehicles stored under the deck has greatly increased.  Even the tandem bicycle.
We just got back from stake conference.  It was broadcast out of Salt Lake.
We are getting ready to go to Richards for a family dinner.  Remember those?

My office/man cave just isn't what it used to be.  Thanks heavens for G.I. Joe's.

Fire trucks everywhere!!!

Our next door neighbor invited us to one of his fire truck club activities.  Lots of cool stuff.

Here is there maintenance shop.  They can park a bucket truck in one corner and extend the ladder/bucket diagonally and still fit.

We walked under a fire truck!

This engine's cab and chassis comes from the Czech Reupblic.  Anytime they need filters and parts, they have to order them.  Very hard to find as the army is also in competion for parts as well.

The penguin patrol!

The training facility was set up for a mock disaster drill on Monday.  The police car had an "officer" hanging out of the front window.  Each one of the buildings can "burn" or "smoke" however they desire.  They also had burners out in the center gravel areas where they could simulate a tractor trailer fire.

One of the "victims."

Can you spot the victim?

Ty shooting the hose.  It comes out at 130 PSI!

Aimee's turn.  We had fun adjusting the nozzle.

Katie's turn

This monitor was shooting 600 gallons per mintue across the pond onto the disaster zone.
Here is the truck powering Aimee's monitor.  It is from the 1950's and was used in the Estes Park area I believe.  The current owner grew up watching it across the street as a kid and chasing it to fires. It is "drafting" or pulling its water from the pond.
