Since the latest craze is to illustrate your story with a picture from the internet, I thought I'd start my story with a picture of a "scarecrow." It is a motion senstive sprinkler that runs on a 9-volt battery. You attach a garden hose to it and it scares off deer. (Or in Dad's case- cats!)
At our current job sight they have a large herd of elk, another of deer and a rafter of wild turkeys. To keep the animals away from the new plants, we use scarecrows.
I buried a sprinkler line around the perimeter of the yard. I then attached 14 scarecrows to the line about every thirty feet. The water is activated by a sprinkler valve and an irrigation clock. It creates a protected perimeter that allows one to wander in the yard, but keeps animals out.
The problem- the husband has a new convertible that cannot get hit with water when he comes home.
The solution- attach the scarecrow controls to the garage door opener lights. When he approaches the home and opens the garage door, the control valve closes and a drain opens relieving the water pressure. He parks his car, walks into the house and closes the garage door. Ten minutes later, the light on the opener goes off and the scarecrows rearm themselves. You get a remote, a timer, and ease of use all built in- simply by tying the two systems together.
My question- do other landscapers face these kind of wierd situations???
