The speed of information

I'm sitting here contemplating the speed at which the news of President Hinckley's death has spread. He died at around 7:00 pm our time and it hit the news/I heard about it just before 8:00 pm. Within 15 minutes of hearing the news Erik had called me from Denver, Kelly's dad had called her from New York and cousin Michelle called her parents in Toronto and they already knew. Shortly after the first round Matt called me and he already knew as well. Between the news, cell phones, black berries, internet and text messages word travels pretty quick these days. What are the odds that almost everyone I know, scattered across the country, could know a piece of news within 15-20 minutes?

Hmmm...

I'm sitting here thinking about what to post this week, still kind of in shock. I had planned to post about our upcoming EQ pinewood derby, but seems out of place. Instead, I'll just say that I'll miss President Hinckley. As I thought about his life, it brought back a lot of good memories at BYU and the start of my married life. I noticed that our local news already has his passing as the top story on their web site. His time as President certainly helped the church's image throughout the world. I'm sure the next President will do just as well.

He'll be missed.

Our neighbor just called to inform us that President Hinckley passed away tonight, at 7:00 pm, MST. Go onto the Church website for more info.

I just had the thought, as I was reading the Ensign tonight, that President Hinckley has been around for a long time and will continue to be around. I had observed him aging, but not slowing down. The thought even came to me that if he did die, and there were a viewing in Salt Lake, would I make the effort to attend? Who knows, we may make a quick drive out to Salt Lake.

Anyway, feel free to share your thoughts.

Sad News

We're getting word here that Pres. Hinckley passed away about an hour ago. I'm trying to get more info but my internet isn't working too well. I'll keep you posted.

Its Snowing Again

I know what's causing this snow. As per Al Gore, its global warming. He's blaming everything else on global warming so it must be the cause of the snow too.

Spokane got a foot of snow today and we got 3-4 inches. On the news tonight there is a story of a 737 that landed in Spokane and went off the runway, one wheel got into soft mud and it spun the plane around in a 90 degree spin. No one injured but rather exciting. It took three hours to get the plane out and towed out of he way. The weather report is for snow for the next 6 days. If we don't blog next Sunday you better come looking for us.

We had nice meetings today and a fun Linger-Longer after church. The ward is small (45 couples) but seems to be getting along well and is actually a lot of fun. We were supposed to have stake priesthood meeting tonight but because of the snow they cancelled it. Can you hear the disappointment in my voice?

We have been getting calls about the dates for the family reunion and to tell the truth we haven't thought much about it since we got home. I know we need to but we have been busy. It seems that the general consensus (except for Erik and Jamie and that is right in their school time - they have offered to work with whatever works for every one else) is for early August (about the 4th through the 11th). what do you think? What days of the week do you want. Should we plunk it down in the middle of the week or try to save work days and put it over a weekend. What are your thoughts?

I guess I'll be like Grandpa and start posting pictures of my favorite person. This is Mom and Brant at our apartment in Provo. I think I was already in Washington so this is when Mom and Aunt Brenda stayed there waiting for Brant.
